FC Cincinnati had two matches last week, unfortunately, they didn’t gain maximum points with their draw against Bethlehem, they still continue to impress. We’re joined this week on the podcast by RC7, a.k.a. Russell Cicerone. Get downloading folks!!!
Our episode captain this week is MATT WROCK! Matt, thank you so much for wearing the armband for this episode! If you’d like to wear the armband for an episode of Cincinnati Soccer Talk log onto CincinnatiSoccerTalk.com/support.
Brad, Bryan, Bill and I highlight our best and worst moments from last week.
Russell Cicerone joined FC Cincinnati this past offseason after spending last year with Portland Timbers 2. After spending the first few months of the season as a background player, Cicerone has absolutely made the most of his opportunities of late. He got the start a few weeks ago against Minnesota United FC in the US Open Cup and really impressed that evening. Coach Alan Koch was so impressed he gave him the next two matches as well. Russell set up a goal in North Carolina and finally got on the scoresheet himself on Wednesday night with a header briefly giving FC Cincinnati the lead. It was his first goal for the club and if the past couple of weeks have given us any indication, he brings a breath of fresh air to that right flank. We’re thrilled to have the chance to talk with him this week. Russ was a terrific guest.
The United bid won the 2026 World Cup which means there will be World Cup matches being played in the United States, Canada, and Mexico!
FC Cincinnati announced last week that their international friendly this year will be against Espanyol from La Liga. Tickets go on sale June 25th and the match will be played on July 28th.
Don’t adjust your earbuds, yes, Bryan really asked Jeff Berding and Luke Sassano to sign free agent Landon Donovan. We discuss Donovan this week after this ridiculous sponsored tweet he put out. Probably wasn’t the best idea.

My boy Jrodius, formerly of The Best Soccer Show, now on the podcast Slop Culture had this to say about Landon Donovan.

Brad, Boston, Rob and I recap the loss last week to Minnesota United FC in the US Open Cup. Despite the loss, FC Cincinnati hung with a team from MLS. Though the penalty shootout did not go as we had hoped, a lot of good came from the match. Russell Cicerone was dynamite and earned himself another start on Saturday against North Carolina.
Speaking of North Carolina, the Orange and Blue road warriors put it to them this past weekend in 2-0 win. Cicerone continued to impress. His weaving run helped setup Danni Konig’s 17th goal in FC Cincinnati history, making him the club’s all-time scoring leader.
Mike Lahoud joined FC Cincinnati very last in the 2018 preseason, but boy are we glad he did. After spending years around Major League Soccer and last year with Miami FC, Luke Sassano and Alan Koch landed a solid midfielder in Lahoud. The last few weeks that he’s been on the pitch, the midfield play has been stellar. Lahoud, Ryan, Walker, Albadawi have connected extremely well of late. Should be a fun rest of the summer as we watch this group continue to grow. Really enjoyed our conversation with Mike tonight.
It’s another busy week ahead for FC Cincinnati as they get set to host Bethlehem Steel and Richmond on Wednesday and Saturday respectively.
Boston tried his best to #SavetheCrew. Here he is on Local 12 talking about Saturday’s match and what the rivalry means to the city. CLICK HERE TO WATCH

Bryan, Bill, Boston and I recap Tuesday’s festivities. In case you didn’t know, FC Cincinnati has finally been accepted into Major League Soccer! We look back at the events from Rhinegeist and Fountain Square.
We transition a bit to discuss what the next few months are going to be like for FC Cincinnati while they prepare to build a Major League Soccer roster. We visited with Alex Schieferdecker from FiftyFive. One, a website that covers Minnesota United, to get a sense of what they went through in their preparations for MLS.
Speaking of Minnesota United, FC Cincinnati gets set to play host to the Loons coming up on Wednesday night in the next round of the US Open Cup.
Oh yeah, there is this thing called USL. FC Cincinnati won a match in New Jersey for the first time ever. Despite going a goal down and nearly down 2-0. A missed penalty by New York Red Bulls II was the catalyst and two 2nd half goals by the Orange and Blue earned them the 3 points.
Looking good in Cancun, Mike! #KeepHellReal
