Well it was a week that saw FC Cincinnati’s unbeaten streak come to an end, but the good news is that the orange and blue started a new streak with a 2-1 win Saturday night. Plus with Barclays Premier League side Crystal Palace visiting the Queen City Saturday night, it’s arguably the biggest soccer event in Cincinnati soccer history!

On This Episode

Yosief, Bryan, Bill and I recap the loss to Rochester last week. We also discuss the bounce back against Saint Louis FC on Saturday night. We also were very excited that John Harkes deployed a 4-4-2 formation and it definitely paid off.

We visit with Tom Grabo, the CincySportsGuy from Sports Games for Kids. We’re excited to be working with Tom for the Inaugural Cincinnati Soccer Talk FootGolf Classic coming up August 20th at Reeves Golf Course!

We also catch up with Crystal Palace supporters group HolmesdaleUSA as a few of them are making the trip to Cincinnati this weekend and beyond for CPFC’s North American tour.

We've made it to 20 EPISODES and FC Cincinnati is unbeaten in their last 11 USL matches! On to the Show! Cincinnati Soccer Talk Podcast

Jun 29, 2016

You know what they say about ties? Well, we’ll take a 0-0 draw against the 1st place team in the Eastern Conference. Especially when you consider that same team came into Nippert back in April and put up 3 first half goals. FC Cincinnati continues to get better with each week and they showed they could hang with the Eastern Conference’s best team. Now they’re back home to take on the team they beat for the first win in franchise history back in April when they faced Bethlehem Steel FC. On to the show!

On This Episode

Yosief, Brad, Bryan and I recap the scoreless draw between Louisville City FC and FC Cincinnati. It wasn’t the most entertaining match we’ve ever watched but a point is a point. Brad and Yosief made the trek down to Louisville and each had a great experience. We learned about the Plastic Cup with The Pride and Die Innenstadt bussed people down to the game as well. It sounded like a good time was had by all. More importantly, FC Cincinnati was represented well in Louisville.

We discussed some possible lineup changes we’d like to see FC Cincinnati deploy, particularly at forward with Sean Okoli and LB Tyler Polak. Both have done great things this year for the club but there have been issues with both. Should John Harkes rotate the lineup or are you happy with where this team is at?

We hit up the mailbag and Twitter to answer some listener questions.

We wrapped up the episode by looking ahead to Saturday’s 6 PM match against Bethlehem Steel FC.

Nick is out of town so the cats will play. While the main man is on vacation Bryan, Bill, Yosief and Brad break down the week for Episode 18 of the podcast.

Jun 16, 2016

Thanks for all your patience during our absence last week. Unfortunately schedules wouldn’t cooperate and we couldn’t get a podcast recorded. But we’re happy to be back! Thanks for all your feedback as well. With summer being here and vacations looming, it’s going to be tougher to do these shows but we will do our absolute best to get it done! Just like FC Cincinnati is getting things done on the pitch with another win over the weekend.

On This Episode

Yosief, Bill, Bryan and I recap the 2-1 win over FC Montreal. It was great to see forward Sean Okoli score from the run of play. He also slotted home a PK for the other goal. Watch out for this ugly trend, FC Cincinnati giving up late goals. It seems to be happening frequently.

We also had the chance to visit with the newest FCC Supporter Group, The Queen City Firm. We had a chance to chat with founders Jeremy Burnett and Ryan Cocola. Hear what these gentlemen had to say about their ideas and thoughts about starting a new SG.

The club announced some new rules this week surrounding the Bailey. Bryan was not happy about it.

Lastly, we gave our thoughts on the upcoming home match against Toronto FC II, a team that’s struggling in the Eastern Conference.

What rust? Despite having an unexpected week off from action, FC Cincinnati continues their unbeaten streak after a 2-0 win over the visiting Harrisburg City Islanders. It was a physical match to say the least. Now the Orange and Blue have a tough week ahead with two matches in four days.

On This Episode

Yosief, Brad, Bryan and I recap the 2-0 win over Harrisburg. One of the major talking points from that match was the red card for Harrisburgh’s Aaron Wheeler after he elbowed CB Harrison Delbridge in the face when the two jumped for a header. Not to mention the kick to the face just before halftime that was missed by everyone during the broadcast.

FC Cincinnati hits the road on Wednesday night to take on the Tampa Bay Rowdies in the US Open Cup. We debated whether or not you put out a roster that features a lot of backups so that you can save your starters for this weekend’s match against the Richmond Kickers. Do you sacrifice the Open Cup to focus on the USL slate? It’s an interesting debate.

Speaking of the Richmond Kickers, they’ll make their first visit to Nippert Stadium on Saturday night at 7 pm. Richmond is coming off an ugly loss to the worst team in the Eastern Conference this past weekend. In other words, you know they’re going to look to bounce back in a big way. Can the winning train continue to roll Saturday night?

May 25, 2016

Even though FC Cincinnati had the weekend off, the club still continued to make news last week. Their match against Charlotte was rained out 2 days prior to the match. Despite the rainout, FC Cincinnati announced their international friendly coming up in July. They also notched their first win in US Open Cup history when they knocked off Indy Eleven NPSL.

On This Episode

Bill Wolf and Michael Walker recap their experience at Nippert last week during FC Cincinnati’s US Open Cup debut win over Indy Eleven NPSL. We also discussed the next matchup in the tournament and what it means if they win. If they win, they’ll head up north to face the Columbus Crew at a neutral venue in Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium. Boo.

We also were stoked to hear that FC Cincinnati will be hosting FA Cup Finalist, Crystal Palace, in a summer friendly on July 16th. Who would have thought that in Year 1 of this franchise, the Barclays Premier League would be calling? That’s exciting news for our city as well as the club.

Last but not least, we look ahead to Saturday’s home date against the Harrisburg City Islanders. This is a side that drew with FC Cincinnati a few weeks ago at home. They’re coming off a 2-1 win over Toronto FC on Tuesday night. Should be a solid matchup at Nippert Saturday night!

May 17, 2016

Well done Cincinnati! 23K showed up to watch FC Cincinnati knock off those pesky Riverhounds from Pittsburgh. It wasn’t the prettiest performance but defensively it was stellar. Harrison Delbridge, Paul Nicholson and Mitch Hildebrandt all contributed to the first clean sheet in team history. Now the club faces another busy week as they’ve got two matches to prepare for.

On This Episode We welcome Bill Wolf to the podcast this week. We also recap the win for the orange and blue this weekend. Something we’ve noticed already, FC Cincinnati will be receiving everyone’s best shot this year. Despite the tumultuous week in Pittsburgh, they came out and played FC Cincinnati well.

We were visited this week by Jeff Smith, the VP for Ticketing and Sales for FC Cincinnati. Jeff talks about the movement that's taking place with soccer in this town and region.

We also look ahead to Wednesday night’s Open Cup match as FC Cincinnati plays host to Indy Eleven NPSL. FCC will then close out the week by traveling down to Charlotte for leg 2 of the Queen City Cup.

May 11, 2016

It was an interesting week for FC Cincinnati. A road trip to Florida and Pennsylvania last week made for some challenges, especially when you factor in the weather in Orlando last Wednesday. Regardless of the results, 4 points in 2 road matches in one week is solid. Now this week they play host to new rival the Pittsburgh Riverhounds at 4 PM Saturday afternoon. Wear orange!

On This Episode

Michael Walker made his triumphant return to the pod this week along with Brad Weigel and Yosief Tzeghai. We each broke down the two road matches. We were excited for the 3-1 win in Orlando but largely disappointed with the 1-1 result against struggling Harrisburg.

We also discuss the announcement this week that the Cincinnati Bengals and a few of their players are going to be honorary captains at Saturday's match. Plus, club owner Carl Linder III has personally written to FC Cincinnati fans to attend Saturday's match and help to surpass 25,000 tickets sold. BIG NUMBER.

We look ahead to Saturday's 4 PM kickoff between the Pittsburgh Riverhounds and FC Cincinnati.

Well done FC Cincinnati faithful! On a rain soaked Saturdaynight at Nippert Stadium you still managed to pack the house withover 11,000 fans! Serious kudos are in order. Right now FCCincinnati is averaging 15,491 per game which is tops in the USL.Let’s hope that average continues to rise through the summer. Asfor the game itself, we discuss that and more on this week’spod.

On This Episode

You know what they say about tie games? I don’t need to repeatthat here. It was two points dropped though on Saturday night as FCCincinnati finished the match 1-1 with Wilmington. MitchHildebrandt’s PK save was amazing, unfortunately the ensuing cornerresulted in a goal for the Hammerheads. But former Wilmington starPaul Nicholson leveled the match early in the 2nd half.

We were joined on the show this week by Pat Brennan from TheCincinnati Enquirer. Pat’s been fortunate to cover the FCCincinnati beat for our local newspaper. He fills us in on theearly season storylines and also a bit of background on how hebecame a soccer journalist.

This week features two matches, one on Wednesday night againstOrlando City B and Saturday night against the Harrisburg CityIslanders, both of which are on the road. We break it down for youand offer up our predictions.

Apr 27, 2016

After losing in disappointing fashion the week before, FC Cincinnati bounces back with a big road win in Canada over the weekend when they came back and knocked off Toronto FC II 2-1. Goals by Andrew Wiedeman and Mr. Instant Offense Omar Cummings helped bring the orange and blue back for good. Oh yeah, there was this certain save by GK Mitch Hildebrandt that MAY have helped as well. There’s another big home game coming up on Saturday night at Nippert Stadium. We hope to see you fill it up!

On This Episode

On this week’s show we started off by recapping the win over Toronto. We offered up our Men of the Match and marveled at the amazing save from Mitch Hildebrandt. #SCTOP10

We were joined on the show this week by Asst. Coach Ryan Martin from FC Cincinnati. Ryan chats with us about his start in professional soccer and just how he get got involved early on with FC Cincinnati and Coach Harkes. Plus he fills us in on his favorite soccer bar in town.

This week we also feature Die Innenstadt, one of the large supporter groups. Timo Brightenstein, who serves as the VP of the Group, is a lifelong Borussia Dortmund fan and season ticket holder. He’s been able to share his SG experience with many fans of FC Cincinnati and help to make the gameday atmosphere feel like home.

Apr 20, 2016

Never in my lifetime did I ever expect that a soccer team in Cincinnati would have over 20,000 people attend it. I was honored and excited to be a part of history on Saturday night when FC Cincinnati broke a regular season attendance record in their 3-2 loss to River City Rival, Louisville City FC.

On This Episode

Talk about a bag of mixed emotions. We open up the show by discussing the loss to Louisville. Lot of issues defensively on Saturday night. Particularly in the first half. We then get into the stadium atmosphere where the mood seemed to lighten up a bit.

The supporters groups have been absolutely on point, whether you’re a member of The Pride, Die Innenstadt or The Legion, you all deserve a ton of credit. On this week’s podcast we’re joined again by the founder of The Pride Supporter Group, Payne Rankin. Payne discussed the difficulties the supporters groups have had in the first two home matches. He’s also very excited about the future of the club as well as the groups.

We do our best to tackle Toronto FC II. Doesn’t it seem odd to one week play in front of nearly 21,000 people and now this week you follow that up with a possible sell out crowd of 2,500. TFC II has some talent though offensively and may just be able to put a few balls in the back of the net.

The home opener on Saturday night was an amazing experience and things just keep getting better for fans of FC Cincinnati because Louisville is coming to town this week. Time to bring your A-game! Let's show that team down the river how soccer is played in the Queen City!

On This Episode

We opened this week's show by recapping FC Cincinnati's first home win in club history 2-1 over the Charlotte Independence in front of 14,658 rowdy fans at Nippert Stadium. Brad Weigel also makes his triumphant return to the podcast after spending the weekend watching golf.

We're super pumped this week because FC Cincinnati forward Andrew Wiedeman joined us on the podcast to discuss his first goal, which just so happened to be the first USL goal in FC Cincinnati history. Andrew also tells us how he's adjusted to life in the Queen City and fills us in on his hair secrets. From the nightlife to the local restaurants, Andrew seems to really enjoy being part of this town. He's even eager to try some goetta!

So with one home game in the books, it's time to compete for another cup, this time it's the River Cities Cup. Louisville City FC makes the short trip up to Cincy for their first visit to Nippert. We each give our predictions on the match and what we can expect Saturday night.

How about that! FC Cincinnati gets out to an early 2-0 lead and hangs on for dear life to finish on top 2-1 over Bethlehem Steel on Sunday. Congrats to Coach Harkes on the first win in his coaching career. Congrats to the entire organization on the first USL win in club history, #3Points. Now to the show!

On This Episode

We opened this week's show by recapping FC Cincinnati's first win in club history! Andrew Wiedeman scores the first goal in club history and Sean Okoli follows up shortly after to get the good guys off to a great start. Bethlehem Steel were forced to finish the match with 10 men and it seemed to improve them as they scored in stoppage time, and hit the bar a 2nd time as well. FC Cincinnati escapes Pennsylvania with their first 3 points in USL history. Who was your Man of the Match? We give out our MOTM awards as well.

Harrison Delbridge was named to this week's USL Team of the Week. FC Cincinnati also announced surpassing the 5,000 mark of season tickets sold, 10,000 seats sold for Saturday night's home opener against the Charlotte Independence.

Plus we also give our score predictions for Saturday's first leg of the Queen City Cup between the Charlotte Independence and FC Cincinnati.

I've watched a lot of soccer in my lifetime being a fan of one of that red team in Manchester. I've subscribed to MLS DirectKick the past four seasons, I'll even sit down and watch Liga MX en Español. Saturday night was first for me. I was so excited to watch FC Cincinnati launch their inaugural season on Saturday night. I can't say I've ever sat through an entire soccer match on Youtube. Check that experience off my bucket list. Even with all the matches I've seen in my life, Saturday night's loss felt different to me. Maybe it's because I actually have a connection to a team for the first time in my life. Here's to hoping the good guys can start their winning ways this weekend in Pennsylvania. On to the show!

On This Episode

We opened this week's show by discussing the great turnout by fans at Rhinehaus to watch FC Cincinnati take on Charleston Battery. It was a fantastic game to watch online as well. Despite the 1-0 loss, there were some positives to take away from this match. What were the positives YOU took away from this match?

We also looked ahead to Sunday's match against Bethlehem Steel. The Steel are coming off a 1-0 win over FC Montreal in Canada on Friday night to kick off the USL season. Just like Charleston's goal was a fluke against us, Bethlehem's goal was a bit of a fluke as well.

We finished up the show by discussing the upcoming meet and greet on Thursday night at Rheingeist. Plus season tickets have mailed out to season ticket holders! Have you received yours? What are your thoughts?

Plus we also give our score predictions for Sunday's Bethlehem Steel - FC Cincinnati match.

Episode 6

It may have only been a friendly on Friday night, but the FC Cincinnati faithful packed the house at Xavier to watch the orange and blue in their first game in the Queen City. What a spectacular turnout. The supporters groups were out in force and working together on chants and marching to the game. The Listermann's event prior to the game sounded like it was a hit as well. It almost feels like the 2-0 win over the Muskies was just a side note to the night. It was great to see FC Cincinnati close out their preseason unbeaten though as they get set to head down to Charleston to take on a very tough Battery side.

On This Episode

We opened this week's show by discussing the great turnout by fans to the friendly at Xavier. Bryan recapped quite elegantly here. Oh by the way, there was a game on Friday night and it finished 2-0 to the good guys.

We were really excited to have back on the program Chad Hollingsworth from the USL Show and Scratching the Pitch. Chad was impressed with the preseason that FC Cincinnati had and thinks they have a loaded roster, one that can possibly compete for the Eastern Conference crown.

We finished up the show by discussing the radio debut of the John Harkes Show from the Moerlein Lager House in downtown Cincinnati. Our very own Brad Weigel was there representing CST. Yours truly was proud to be the first caller in the history of the program too. #humblebrag

Plus we also give our score predictions for Saturday night's USL opener for FC Cincinnati and more.

The preseason fixtures for FC Cincinnati resumed this past weekend when the club made the short trek up to Indy to take on Indy Eleven, an NASL side. They'll also be playing their first match in the Queen City this Friday night when they take on Xavier University. After the draw in Indy, can FC Cincinnati continue their unbeaten run in this preseason against the Muskies?

On This Episode

We opened this week's show by discussing the 1-1 result in Indianapolis over the weekend when FC Cincinnati took on Indy Eleven. A decent result considering Indy Eleven is a NASL side. The orange and blue had the lead after a 2nd half goal by guess who, Luke Spencer. Unfortunately Indy Eleven fought back and scored in the 85th minute to secure the draw.

We also look ahead to Friday's matchup against Xavier. Don't forget that Listerman's is hosting and event prior to the match!

The club recently announced they have surpassed 4,000 season ticket sales. Plus we discuss this article regarding youth soccer and it's involvement with FC Cincinnati.

After reading this article over at 6th Day Soccer, we discuss whether or not FC Cincinnati should have a nickname? What nickname would you like the club to have? Email us at cincysoccertalk@spnt.tv.

Can you believe we are ONE MONTH away from the home opener for FC Cincinnati? It feels like yesterday that the team was formally announced and here we are just a few weeks away from the club kicking off their inaugural campaign. Don't miss out on any of the FC Cincinnati action this summer though, plenty of tickets are available. Don't wait! Tell them we sent you!

On This Episode

We opened this week's show by discussing some of the upcoming friendlies FC Cincinnati will be taking part in. On March 12th, the team will be traveling to Indianapolis to take on NASL side Indy Eleven in a closed door friendly. The club will also take on Xavier University on March 18th at Xavier. Then on April 5th the club will host a "dress rehearsal" at Nippert Stadium when the University of Dayton comes to town.

We also took a closer look at the FC Cincinnati 2016 schedule now that the kickoff times have been finalized for the season. Lots and lots of home games in June and July. The road schedule really picks up in August and September.

Really excited about our guest on this week's podcast. We were privileged to have Jeff Berding, the President and General Manager for FC Cincinnati. Jeff discussed his background in sports, particularly his 19 years with the Cincinnati Bengals. Jeff also reveals interesting news surrounding Nippert Stadium's reconfiguration. Of course the topic of MLS expansion had to come up.

We also capped the show by discussing the recent price drop at the FC Cincinnati Online Shop. We also hope you'll take part in our #FANTHEWALL campaign and like our Facebook page at facebook.com/cincinnatisoccertalk.

Well how about that! FC Cincinnati becomes champions in the first competition they take part in. I don’t care that it’s a preseason friendly tournament. Hey, silverware, is silverware. Ask Arsenal, am I right? Regardless, the club went down to Florida and took care of business against some quality sides. Plus, any time a USL side can knock off a MLS side it’s definitely newsworthy. Let’s hope that momentum carries over into the regular season which is approaching rapidly.

On This Episode

We opened this week’s show by recapping FC Cincinnati’s tournament championship last week in the IMG Suncoast Pro Classic down in Bradenton, FL. During the week the club managed a few firsts. In the 2nd game of the tournament, FC Cincinnati knocked of MLS side New York City FC 2-1 for the franchise’s first win. In the club’s 3rd game they knocked off HB Koge from Denmark 4-0 securing the franchise’s first clean sheet.

Speaking of firsts, on this week’s podcast we welcomed Dan McNally, the Vice President of Operations for FC Cincinnati. He’s the first member of the club to join us on the podcast. Fitting considering he was the club’s first hired employee. Dan fills us in on his role with the club, how he managed to land a gig in operations in the first place. He also hinted at some of the upcoming plans the organization has this summer to enhance the fan experience at Nippert Stadium.

We also capped the show by discussing the changes/goals of Cincinnati Soccer Talk. We also were excited to mention our newest teammate here at CST, Michael Walker. Michael’s been crushing it with blog posts this week and we’re thrilled to have him on board contributing!

Thanks for all the kind words and tremendous feedback after Episode 1 last week. Now that we’ve been able to watch some actual soccer being played by FC Cincinnati, it was fun to get a chance to actually talk about on the field subjects for once.

On This Episode

We open the show by recapping the 2-2 draw with KR Reykjavic, one of the top teams from the Icelandic Premier League. The game was pretty dull in the 1st half but the action heated up in the 2nd half. Especially after this amazing goal from Corben Bone! Check it out below!

Then we had the pleasure of visiting with some of the supporter groups that are cropping up around FC Cincinnati. The first group we visited with is the Die Innenstadt. Ryan Lammi and Jared Handra joined the podcast to discuss building a supporter group from the ground up. We also visited with Payne Rankin from The Pride. Payne is very excited to see masses of people attend pre game festivities, take part in tifo designs and more. Visit each of these supporter groups websites and determine which is best for you. It also doesn’t hurt to join both, we’re all rooting for the same cause here!

FC Cincinnati also announced today that they have reached an agreement with iHeartMedia to broadcast all of the home fixtures on 1530-AM WCKY in Cincinnati. Which begged a questions. For instance, why only the home games? Should a British voice or an American voice be the play-by-play voice of FC Cincinnati?
