We told you that we were taking off this week, but Bryan, Boston and Brad decided to give their thoughts on the current Division Two (D2) sanctioning issues with the US Soccer Federation. Hear the guys elaborate on the situation, give the background of both leagues and why D2 matters.

Highlights from this week's show.

Bryan, Boston and Brad layout the current situation of US Soccer Division Two Professional sanctioning. The United Soccer League (USL) and the North American Soccer League (NASL) have each applied to fill the second tier of professional league in the United States.

The current D2 league (NASL) has struggled with losing teams to MLS, financial difficulties, league moves or ownership hardships. Seven teams remain in the NASL, but the league is hoping to find several additional teams to help meet USSF league sanctioning criteria.

The current Division Three (D3) league (USL) has grown by leaps and bounds expanding to 30 teams for the 2017 season. However, several clubs are run by MLS franchises and may not meet several standards including staff, stadium or city population sizes.

US Soccer has much to consider and the guys will elaborate on how it can impact the American soccer landscape and our local club.

Bryan also makes another promise that he might not be able to keep. Stay tuned.

For this being the last episode of the 2016 year, we sure had an awful lot to discuss on the podcast this week. Since we last recorded we had a few player announcements, a new coach added to the staff, an FC Cincinnati open house and a new Supporters Council introduced. Not to mention MLS and their new expansion guidelines for teams 25-28. It made for an action packed episode before even mentioning our special guest, FC Cincinnati midfielder Michael Millay.

Highlights from this week’s show.

Captaining our podcast this week is Matthew Adamchik! Matthew was generous and contributed at The Gaffer level! Thank you so much for your support! If you’d like to become the captain of an episode, support our show today at CincinnatiSoccerTalk.com/support.

Alan Koch joins the coaching staff as the Director of Analytics and will be responsible for launching the FC Cincinnati academy.

FC Cincinnati launches the new Supporters Council.

We’re joined on the podcast by special guest Michael Millay, midfielder from FC Cincinnati. Michael shares his inspirational story on how and why he became a member of Cincinnati. He also fills us in on his offseason projects, including his new business Cincy Rooted.

Last but not least, we took some of your calls and discussed MLS Expansion.

On this week’s Cincinnati Soccer Talk podcast we take a stroll down Cincinnati soccer memory lane. Remember the Cincinnati Silverbacks professional indoor soccer team? We spend the episode reminiscing about the glory days of professional indoor soccer in the Queen City with special guest Rich Neumann, the former President of the Cincinnati Silverbacks. If you’re curious to know how that team came about, Rich fills us in on all the details in this week’s episode.

Highlights from this week’s show.

Captaining our podcast this week is Jesse Gill! Thank you Jesse for supporting our show! If you’d like to become the captain of an episode, support our show today at CincinnatiSoccerTalk.com/support.

Brad, Bryan, Yosief and I relieve some of our fondest memories of going to Cincinnati Silverbacks games in the Cincinnati Gardens and The Crown (now US Bank Arena).

Rich Neumann joins the program and tells us some great stories on getting the franchise started. He also talks about some of his unique memories of running the team, from player purchases to roster and gameday operations.
Based on his stories it sounds like he had his hands full. Rich now spends his time working with minor league sports to build new stadiums. The former Silverbacks president is proud of what FCC has achieved but he doesn’t think FC Cincinnati has a chance to get into MLS unless they can build a soccer specific stadium.

MLS Cup was this past weekend and we recapped the big match. Congratulations to the Seattle Sounders who won MLS Cup without registering a single shot on target.

The CST gang played some trivia this week and gave away a Cincinnati Silverbacks t-shirt courtesy of CincyShirts.com. Thanks guys for providing the shirt!

On this week’s show we talk about the state of soccer, particularly for the NASL which as of this time is in deep. Will NASL survive? What does it mean for FC Cincinnati? What does it mean for MLS or USL? Plus we look back at last week’s Don Garber event.

Highlights from this week’s show.

Boston, Brad and I briefly recap our thoughts on last week’s successful Don Garber event.

We also talk about the news surrounding Sean Okoli and his departure from FC Cincinnati, to his arrival at New York City FC.

We visit with Neil Morris from WRAL Sports Fan in Raleigh, NC to discuss the rebranding of the Carolina Railhawks to now North Carolina FC. We also discuss what the NASL plans to do for next season, will there be a season? Rumors are flying around that a few NASL teams are close to securing spots in USL for next season.

What a day it was in Cincinnati on Tuesday when MLS Commissioner Don Garber and ESPN Soccer Analyst Taylor Twellman visited the Queen City. It was a great day and the city of Cincinnati should be proud of how it presented itself to the MLS top brass.

Highlights from this bonus show.

We hear from Taylor Twellman and Don Garber during their visit to local pub Rhinehaus.

Brad Weigel had the chance to sit down with Taylor Twellman at the FC Cincinnati front office to get his thoughts on FCC and MLS.

We also get the thoughts of owner Carl Lindner III, Tom Gehlerter (play-by-play voice of FCC) and Head Coach John Harkes. Also we hear from supporters Bryan Griffin and the Cincy Super Fan, Tom Grabo.
